NPC merchants and their stores
Overview
An NPC merchant is one entity in five places: a NPCharacter.dat row (NPC code, race), a StoreList.dat row (the store: map, buttons, type, goods, limits), names in StoreList_str.dat, the dummies *sd<code> (position) and *bd<code> (bind point) in the server map SPT, the client Store.edf (a copy of the store) and NDStore.edf (texts); the model is the Npc list in Resource.edf.
NPCharacter.dat NPC code (hex, “03000”), m_nRace
│ m_strStore_NPCcode
StoreList.dat store “sd03000”: map, buttons, type, goods
│ m_strCode = dummy name │ m_strBinding_DummyName
<map>.spt *sd03000 (NPC position) *bd03000 (bind point)
How it works
- The server does not spawn NPCs: it sends the client the store positions (up to 100 per map), and the client builds the NPC from the
Store.edfrow found by number. The client takes the model fromStore.edf, not fromNPCharacter. - NPC row i ↔ store i: the row count of
NPCharactermust equal the row count ofStoreList, otherwise the Sirin server crashes at start. InNPCharacteronly the code and race matter; the scale goes toStore.edf, the other fields affect nothing. - Goods: the server loads the list up to the first error; every product has a price in the field of its currency;
m_nStore_LISTcountis how many the client shows.m_nItemUpCodeis copied into the bought item as sockets and talics (the top nibble is the socket count, then 7 talics); −1 — no sockets. - Buttons
m_nNpc_Classare codes from the reference list, zeros only at the end; the server checks only the bind button (13): then the store needs a*bddummy, and the dummy name and map code must be shorter than 12 characters (they are written into the character DB). - The NPC angle is only
m_nStore_NPCangle; the dummy rotation does not affect the NPC.
Store.edf is outside the catalog scope: it is “opaque” in the registry (the GU layout differs from AoP); its fields are described in npc-stores.md §7, §7.3 and mentioned here as the receiver of server fields.

Unused parameters
Fields that neither the server nor the client reads. For each: why it was decided so and where that was established. The editor keeps their bytes as they are.
